melting man is the blog of Steve Curati. The name comes from an photo arts project from around 2002. Having not carved out a career as an electro-indie pop god in the mid-90s when Go!Discs signed Portishead instead of me, I started messing around at the fringes of the interweb in 1999. I then combined web work with the odd bit of freelance photography over the subsequent years.
In 2001 I went back to school to do a Science, Culture and Environment MA, which somehow ended up as a bunch of stuff on the philosophy and sociology of technology (including a piece called ‘The Rise of the Blog’) and culminated in a dissertation on ‘The Role of Technology in The War On Terror’.
By weekday I look after the web side of D&AD (we’re in Vauxhall - hence the ‘down by the river’ bit). Sometimes, I might talk about art and design and, as ever with these things, anything that ends up here in absolutely no way at all, at all, at all represents the views of my employers.
In the evenings I go home to Peckham Rye.
By weekend I’m an Arsenal season ticket holder and manager of the mighty Brixton Tigers FC.

Hi,
I hope you don’t mind me contacting you? I’ve been having a bit of a hunt around online and I notice from you blog that you have an interest in innovative design and photography and I
thought you might be interested in some cool contemporary art activity I’m working on for Becks.
Beck’s have supported contemporary art for the best part of 20 years - lending emerging artists such Damien Hirst, Tracy Emin and Jake & Dinos Chapman a helping hand at key points in their career.
This year we have worked with the Royal College of Art to offer four promising artists the opportunity to exhibit their artwork on an unprecedented scale – having there artwork replace the Becks label on bottles nationwide in August. Once again, providing a foot-up for the next batch of Damien Hirsts.
I wondered if you would be interested in finding out more about the campaign? The winners and their works are well and truly under lock and key until Mid July. However, I can reveal to you the names of the winning artists, their biogs and some examples of previous work if you’re interested?
We will be launching the event at a Central London location on the evening of the 16th July, i don’t know if you would be interested in attending?
Please let me know what you think?
Cheers
James

Hello,
My name is Amos and I am working for LinkLift - a company that deals with online advertising, principally buying and selling text links.
I noticed your site which I think is very nice and I was wondering if you would like to include some links, simply one or two small words in your side bar, in exchange of a fixed monthly income.
Thanks for your attention, I am looking forward to hearing from you should you need more clarifications.
Sincerely,
Amos Singarella
